HDMI is not working of my first Rpi

Tue Mar 11, 2014 5:34 pm

Hi guys,

Yesterday, I received my first Raspberry Pi from Amazon.
I want to use XBMC on it so I installed OpenElec with this tutorial http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php/Insta ... spberry_Pi.
The instalation went well.
But when I want to plug my Rpi to my screen with HDMI, I've nothing except a black screen with "no signal".
So I instal other software like Raspbmc, Noobs but the HDMI don't work everytime.
So I re install OpenElec and I try to modify config.txt with SSH with all the solutions here : http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=5851
But I can't have a image on my screen.
I think the HDMI plug is not broken because my tv send me sometimes " Video format not supported "

Can someone have a solution ? :)
Thanks you :)

PS : I apologize for my bad english, i'm french :)

What make/model of T.V.?
Did you have the T.V. switched on and the correct HDMI input selected before turning on the Pi?
Is your Pi in a case? (Some cases have walls thick enough to prevent the HDMI cable plug making a proper connection)
W.r.t. NOOBS did you try selecting HDMI SAFE MODE (Key/mode '2')?
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

Thanks for you reply :)

- My TV is a Philips, 7 years old : 42PFL9632D/10.
- Yes
- My Pi is not in a case and the HDMI plug seem to be well pluged.
- Yes I already try to switch to HDMI safe mode

O.K. One question I forgot to ask was whether the HDMI input on the T.V. has been working when fed from another HDMI source?
If the T.V. has a yellow RCA A.V. or SCART** input you could try getting NOOBS to work with composite video:

Or, if you can, (borrow and) try another T.V. with an HDMI input. It's very unusual for HDMI safe mode not to work.

** You'll need a suitable adapter etc.:

The HDMI input on TV works perfectly with my DVD reader.
And my Pi works perfectly in RCA with a simple cable for the video. :)
