Raspberry Pi Begginer Needs Portable Monitor Solution

Mon Mar 10, 2014 8:49 pm

I'm a computer science student taking a class on mobile computing and having followed the development of the Raspberry Pi for many years, I've finally decided to get one, the 512mb Model B. However, I still need a small-ish (<12 inch) monitor that I can carry with me between classes. I've got a budget of $100 for the monitor, and have found a couple here:
http://www.amazon.com/Lilliput-7-inch-m ... 005Y2AP3G/ (I don't see anything about what interfaces this monitor has on the page, but the reviews say they hooked it up to their PCs so I assume it has some kind of input, I can get an adapter if need be.)
http://www.amazon.com/Tontec-Raspberry- ... 00G60FJNG/ (I'm also taking a sheet metal shop class, so I can bend an enclosure for this one. One of the reviews says it doesn't connect directly to the RPi and I assume that is because he needed a cable of which I have plenty.)
I'm willing to make modifications to the BIOS files of the RPi but am not confident in my ability to solder circuits together or attach wires to places they don't go (sorry electromechanics).
Any and all help and suggestions for what small screen I should get would be greatly appreciated!
Nick

If you are prepared to wait a while, there are options on the horizon:
Look at HDMIPi, which was successfully funded on Kickstarter. Currently waiting for redesigned interface board from manufacturer, so not long now...
The Foundation is also producing displays connected to the CSI port. Prototypes have been seen in the wild.
Exciting times ahead :D

I saw and backed the HDMIPi, but need something much sooner than when the HDMIPi is released.
