PI, to big

Sun Mar 09, 2014 4:06 pm

I'm looking for a board who would have a HDMI, 2 USB and 1 Ethernet connector. This board would require to boot on either SD/MiniSD/MicroSd. Linux would be the OS of course. The problem I'm facing with the PI is that the PCB is too large for my need. But if I can cut it, it would do the job. Is there a way to cut-it in half and the to two part with jumpers? Where's the cut could be possible with less soldering works?

Forget it. There is no possible way you could do that.

Almost impossible I'd have thought. It's not just copper tracks top and bottom. It's a 6-layer board IIRC.
Pi2B Mini-PC/Media Centre: ARM=1GHz (+3), Core=500MHz, v3d=500MHz, h264=333MHz, RAM=DDR2-1200 (+6/+4/+4+schmoo). Sandisk Ultra HC-I 32GB microSD card on '50=100' OCed slot (42MB/s read) running Raspbian/KODI16, Seagate 3.5" 1.5TB HDD mass storage.

realistically, the pi is going to be the smallest you'll get for now. But its not impossible that there will be smaller boards in the future

The board is multilayer, forget cuting it
You can remove composite/audio jacks to save some space.

f you need smaller, I'd look at android sticks
Small, ARM based HDMI wifi and USB

USB hub for more ports and add a usb ethernet if needed

They do lack any GPIO though
Android app - Raspi Card Imager - download and image SD cards - No PC required !
