image transfer from 29.4 to 29.3 gig sd card

Fri Mar 07, 2014 10:24 pm

I have 3 pi, s 1 with an image on a 32 gig sd card I am trying to copy to another 32 gig sd but it says image 29.4 space available on new csrd is 29.3. I know from past experience that the copy process using win32xxxxx fills the card ss I copied a 2 gig image to a 4 gig card once and when I tried the other way , not enough space. I am sure that thr imsge isnt actually 29.4 gig so my question is. Is there a way on making the image fit without buying a new card as the one I have the image on isnt available in Spain as I bought it in uk. Obviously the image is backed up on comp. Pleeese help but keep it simple as im not that smart

Easy answer is NO.

Complex answer is you can risk it (because you'd have to work hard to fill a 32GB card).

Win32DiskImager will get a copy of your card.
It can write that image to a new card, when it falls off the end you'll look 100K of (hopefully) empty space.

When you boot the newly copied SDCard in your RPi you can resize the partition so that 100K of empty space is removed. (Using the links I posted.)

You will, most likely, get away with it and not suffer any lasting problems.
