Composite video in b/w

Thu May 31, 2012 10:46 am

I've trawled through the forum & haven't seen anything about composite video connections only being in black & white.

At the moment my R-Pi is connected to an old crt portable via a SCART adapter. Unfortunately there's no colour.

I'm hoping to get a new screen & hopefully use a(n) hdmi connector.

I am curious as to why I only get b&w, is there a setting I should be invoking?

Is the TV PAL only? Some would show NTSC in mono only. There's a setting in config.txt for PAL - somewhere!

This is a know problem when using old European TVs which do not support NTSC. You should set the video mode to PAL, see http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt#Video_mode_options

Why is NTSC the default setting?
