Purchasing a 2nd RaspberryPi

Sat Feb 22, 2014 2:51 am

Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of purchasing a 2nd raspberry Pi for my son to be located in another room - there's only so much "Sesame Street" I can take.

Are there any issues with this? Will it interfere with my current R Pi? I use XBMC on my ipad to control my current R Pi - what will be the affect of a 2nd device?

Please advise.

Thanks and regards.

No issues that I've noticed. I now have 9 of them connected, 3 Are cable connected, 6 wifi.

Only slight issue is if you connect to them remotelly. By default they all have the same name on the network. Using the config menu when you first boot up, you can now change the name.

Give them each a unique host name and fixed IP address and you'll be good to go. Your home router can support up to 253 Raspberry Pis or other IP devices. So you're a long way from getting any problems.

The reason for the fixed IP address is so you can 100% be sure which RPi you're connected to, but you can do it with DHCP for everyone.

There will be a day when you hit the wrong RPi with a sudo shutdown -r now command (we've all done that).
