Raspberry Pi not booting anymore

Thu Feb 20, 2014 7:10 pm

Hi, my Raspberry Pi suddenly does not boot anymore. On the screen it says weird stuff like:

Code: Select all

WARNING: could not determine runlevel - doing soft init
postinst called with unknown argument `-h`
PANIC: Attempted to kill init! exitcode=0x00000100
Entering kdb (current=0xdd850000, pid 1) due to Keyboard input:
kdb> _
I have no idea what all this means. Is there anything I can do to make my Raspberry Pi work again? :/

Back when I installed Raspian on my Raspberry Pi there was no NOOBS. By installing it, do I lose my data on the Raspberry Pi?

Yes. But however you re-install, you will lose the data currently on the SD card.

Googling for your error message might lead you to a solution.

The bottom line is your RPi (the circuit board) is probably not broken. But your SD card might be corrupted beyond recovery, and that means your data might not be accessible,

I was hoping there was a way to easily make my Raspberry Pi work again without re-installing it from scratch.

Of course I did a Google search before I posted here. Why should I type out those messages when it could be as easy as googling and finding the answer that way. The only thing I found googling were answers to other desperate people that told them to use Google -.-

Anyway! Thanks for all your answers. I guess I have to bite the bullet and re-install my Pi :/

You could put your SD card in a Linux PC (use a "Live CD" if you don't have Linux) and see if you can access any of the data you want to keep.

Then reformat and reinstall.

Then think about making regular backups of the card.

The moral of the story is to always keep backups of your personal files. ;)
Pi2B Mini-PC/Media Centre: ARM=1GHz (+3), Core=500MHz, v3d=500MHz, h264=333MHz, RAM=DDR2-1200 (+6/+4/+4+schmoo). Sandisk Ultra HC-I 32GB microSD card on '50=100' OCed slot (42MB/s read) running Raspbian/KODI16, Seagate 3.5" 1.5TB HDD mass storage.

I did never say that I don’t have backups. Thou the moral is correct :D
