Expat Shield/IP hider for the RPi?

Sun Feb 09, 2014 1:00 pm

Dear fellow members of community,

I live in Spain and have just lost the BBC. With the BBC, there is a service called iPlayer, but you need to live in the UK to access it. I have tried for the past 48 hours to hide my IP - manually and by attempting to set up a VPN. I couldn't do either ( I have no idea why they failed). But there is a service called Expat Shield that gives you an English IP address. Can you get this on the Pi? / is there an easy way to block your IP address for free, on the Pi?

Thank you in advance. :)

It's not possible with ExpatShield because they hide the details of their protocol in a proprietary Windows program.

http://www.esixgroup.com/homerouter.html offer a RPi based service for a tenner per month.

That seems to be a good solution, however are there any that are completely free? Just to be a nuisance :D

Sorry, I don't know.

I'm UK based with a fixed IP address from an excellent Scottish ISP (http://ifb.net). If I go abroad I could use my home VPN if I were interested in doing that (although it's probably too slow for anything useful driving ADSL in the wrong direction).

Thank you very much! At the moment what you suggested is much cheaper than having to pay 150£ for a skybox.
