Error writing file: 5 access is denied

Mon May 28, 2012 3:03 pm

I have followed all the instructions and have tried this multiple times using diskpart to clean it each time afterwards and I still keep on getting this error. I get 48+0 records in and 47+0 records out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What are you trying to do? I'm guessing you're trying to write the SD card, but you don't exactly say in your post :-P

This may sound like a silly question, but do you have the SD write protection lock on?

I think it is a fair question. I checked just before posting this. It is not on lock

Hmm... A couple possibilities

1) Try disabling your anti-virus while you write the image (assuming, of course, you have anti-virus ;-))
2) Is your SD card large enough? WinDiskImg32 shouldn't even try to write it if the SD card is too small... but maybe yours is?
3) Are you trying to write the .zip file or have you extracted it and are trying to write the .img file?
4) Try doing a complete format of the disk, start with a quick format using FAT32 as the partition size, and be sure to use the entire disk to create a single partition, if that doesn't work try a slow format
5) Try running windiskimg32 as an administrator (right click the program and say "Run as Administrator") even if you're already an admin, you have to do this to use those admin privileges

it sounds like an admin/ownership problem, run win32diskimager as admin (right click)

also are you using a builtin sd card reader/writer or a usb one?

you should probably "reset" the card to a known state by using the sd card formatter http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/s ... index.html and telling it to do a full erase and format size adjustment

ok that removes one possible problem area.

it sounds like an admin/ownership problem so if you haven't already done some try running win32diskimager as admin, you right click the icon and say run/open as admin.

Do you have access to a Linux box or at the very least a virtual machine with linux on it? If not can you make a live CD with Linux on it? The point is using linux I'd try to use the instructions for DD to try and write the image with DD.

Or, real quick check the SHA-1 to verify that the image isn't corrupted. The SHA-1 they provide on the download page is to make sure the zip is fine, the SHA-1 in the zip is to make sure the image is fine.

Comodo anti-virus ... I checked the logs and direct file access is only available to "Trusted Files" ... and I had to guess what Defense+ is/was to know to look there for the logs.

To be fair: maybe I was brain-dead after a day of work .. :(

I just had the same problem with my OS window PC
The key was : I had only a explorer window opened on my SD card.
Just close this window and the copy is OK
yes ! my adventure on PI begins ...

Almost the same thing here. Kept getting the "Access denied" message on my Windows 7 PC. I just rebooted and it worked fine. Something must have been accessing the SD card that I couldn't see. Sometimes it really is the simplest solution that works
