Overclocking

Mon Jan 13, 2014 12:22 pm

Hello,

I am considering overclocking a Pi 'B'.

Advice and instruction is most appreciated.

PS I have had my Pi for a few days so know very little about OCing it.

Thanks,

Nevica

What are the limits without frying the CPU please?

YMMV

but you will not blow up your RPI - you may have problems but then just step back a bit...

Why do you think overclocking is needed?

My RPi is plenty quick enough (except for heavy desktop graphics like a web browser where it sucks the CPU dry). There's always a point where I have to use a regular laptop for some tasks. My RPi sits there chugging away doing the job of a relatively quick server.

I want to overclock because it can be done and I want to see what the RPi B is capable of. And its fun to do!!! The capability for OC is built in so why not try it?

I have installed Raspbian with Ice Weasel and it is particularly slow. It is like an intel based CPU I was using about 10 years ago!!!

So in that sense I want to try and speed up the use of Ice Weasel.

Overclocking won't fix Iceweasel. It's just a hog.
The Foundation are working on gettting Collabra running and set as the default web browser (it will use hardware accel).

I don't use my RPi for Iceweasel, I use lynx from the command line.

Ok,

So how far along is Collabora please. I presume its much faster than Ice Weasel. Lynx is too cut down for my usage.

I honestly don't know. Web browsing isn't something that happens on my RPi.
