no sound on a Model B with XBMC

Mon Jan 13, 2014 5:38 am

Hi all--

Please forgive me if this isn't the correct forum for this question (kindly redirect, and thanks), or if it's a common question.

I have a Model B that I'm currently trying to use for playing media files. I've installed both RaspBMC and OpenELEC from the most recent NOOBS 1.3.4-- both seem to run just fine, but I cannot get any sound out of the headphone jack in either case (I'm using a converter cable on the HDMI for video only). I've searched through the XBMC UI for some obvious way to "turn up the volume," but haven't found it yet. I'm not even certain yet that XBMC is the solution I'm looking for, but I need to get the sound on first. Can anyone point me toward resources for solving this problem, or ask for clarifying information if I can provide it?

Best regards,
--Mike C.

Music!
I first got the raspbmc through the link: http://www.raspbmc.com/wiki/user/windows-installation/
Wth this setup plus update my jack did not work. I tried NOOBS plus update and the jack works!
Tadaa!
But: it now works on jack to headphone, not on my amplifier with a jack to tulip plug. This jack to tulip plug works fine with my smartphone to the amplifier.
So: is there something in the configuration I can change to get music out of the amplifier?
Thanks!

Hello Mike,

Do you use a jack to tulip cable like I do? If so; make sure the tulip output is only sound (red and white), not also video (yellow). I bought a cable with only audio output and the pi works fine now.
