Want to Hire a Pi Programmer with Electronics Knowledge

Thu Jan 02, 2014 11:54 pm

I am an artist and wish to use a Raspberry Pi to create a media player out of a small television. I have is I would like to have a series of industrial type buttons that control the Raspberry. Here are the functions I would like them to perform:

1) Turn the devise on and off.
2) Advance the display of media to the next file.
3) Advance individual slides back and forth with 2 different buttons.

In addition I’d like to be able to:

1) Choose different directories to display different galleries of images easily.
2) Have the player play one series over and over again when no one has pressed the buttons for a series of time.
3) Control the fades of how the images transition in the programming.

Ideally, I’d like to hire one person to help me develop the whole project.

Thanks you!

Mark

Although not 100% essential, such arrangements generally work much better when the people involved can meet face to face as and when necessary without expending a great deal of time and money.

You didn't say where in the world you are. That suggests to me (but does not prove) that you are in the USA.

Because Americans are particularly ethnocentric... Oh wait, guilty as charged. :)

What you require is quite do-able, and is mostly software. Hooking up some buttons to the Raspberry Pi is also not too hard. You can connect them with wires to the GPIO pins on the RPi PCB, or you could modify an old keyboard so that your industrial-style pushbuttons act like any key on the keyboard.

You might be able to find someone to hire, or you might find a local hacker group who will help you for free. If you have some skill with coding and a soldering iron you will get useful, free, advice here too to help you do it yourself.

Sounds like a large version of one of those USB based multimedia picture frames.

I'd love to do it, but I am not conveniently located at this time.

I suggest that you look further afield, but still ask for Pi experience. The Pi is perfect for this job, but not all Pi users are visiting this website, and not all skilled people are aware of the Pi.

I'll re-iterate, if you want to try it yourself you will get a lot of specific help for specific questions here.

Hi,

Upf, no luck so far ???

I see at least two different options you could take - first is to visit local (technical) college or robots/electronics hobby clubs. There you can get enthusiasts and you can involve him/her/them into your project... this would be a cheap and nice social experience, where you could get few local contacts also similar projects in the future. This is quite similar to the one you took on this forum (but unfortunatly with no much success so far), with focus to local comunity.
The other option is more commercial, to hire a professional. This is generally more predictable option, but you should be aware that a hourly rate applies in this case...

Due to the described functionalities you need, if I were you, I'd definitelly try with first option first, for sure.
Anyway, if you'll have no luck with it, you can contact me (check private mailbox, I'm going to send you my email address)... but please be aware that I'm a member of the second option above.

Best wishes, Ivan Zilic.
Running out of GPIO pins and/or need to read analog values?

PiGraham is right. Looks like Pi Presents can do all you want and more bar the fades. Even that is not impossible if I ever get round to integrating PI3d ideas into Pi Presents.

Instead of spending a fortune on professional help if you like Pi Presents just donate a little to my little museum :)
