Wifi problem- RALINK (Maplin)

Sun Dec 29, 2013 7:27 pm

Hi all,

I have a RPi model B, running Raspian Wheezy.

I bought the RALINK wifi adaptor from Maplin today.

I've run through many different forums to try and get this setup without success.

I'm using WPA2 on my wifi router. If I run dmesg | grep usb! I can see that my router signal is there.

Any tips please?

Thanks

Plug it in.
Run an lsusb command
Search on here for the magic numbers that show up when the adapter is inserted.

Thanks. I've checked some of those posts before. Nothing works on the RPi.

The device works fine on my Windows laptop.

I'm going to buy a powered usb hub and try it through there - when I plug the wifi adaptor in while the RPi is on, the whole device reboots itself so there could be an issue with power.

The fact that the Pi reboots when you plug in the wifi adaptor is not unusual and is basically a problem with the Pi even if you have a good supply. It will reboot if you plug in almost any USB device if it takes it's power from the Pi.

I was hoping you'd post the magic numbers here so that we can better help you.
