XBMC setup

Sun Dec 29, 2013 2:43 pm

I am trying to make a media center of my Raspberry Pi and I have stumbled upon some things I dont get. I've followed this tutorial: http://www.raspbmc.com/wiki/user/os-x-l ... tallation/

And eventually a text comes up which says:

Code: Select all

Enter your choice here(e.g. 'mmcblk0' or 'sdd')
Now call me an idiot but I dont get this part so I tried both. First I tried sdd which says it doesn't exist, then I tried mmcblk0and it worked. Now I the installation was complete and I restarted my raspberry and just want to try it out. So I connected it to a normal monitor with HDMI to DVI. Now the screen is black and it says: Wait 8 seconds for Network Interface to come up after a while a blue screen pops up saying:

Code: Select all

Sorry, I couldn't connect to the update server. Please verify you have a wired
network connection or properly configured wireless connection and disable any proxy
servers on your network.

After you have done this, unplug your Raspberry Pi for 60 seconds before trying again

And I can't ssh in my raspberry anymore.(which I could before the installation of xbmc)

Now I have no idea what is going wrong here. I was thinking about either my setup went wrong or xbmc can't run via DVI, whatever it is, I want to make it work. What is going wrong?

I went to the downloads here http://www.raspbmc.com/download/ and got the network image. Once you put the image on the SD card and power up the RPi, it will download what it needs and mine worked straight away. But my thought on your issue, are you trying this from the RPi? To me, these instructions look like they are for a different machine running either OSx or linux that will build your SD card to then go into the RPi.
