Installing Raspbian from NOOBS first time failed

Thu Dec 26, 2013 3:34 pm

Hello-

We got our son a Pi for Christmas, specifically the new (I think) bundle that includes an 8GB SD card with NOOBS preinstalled. We hooked everything up and were excited to see a screen allowing us to choose an OS. We picked Raspbian and were anxiously watching the progress meter and reading the messages. At around 50%, an error occurred (and I'm sorry I didn't write it down, so can't provide any details). Now when we try to power up, several screens worth of text (white on black) scroll by, ending with the following:

Entering kdb (current=0xda82ac80, pid 1) due to Keyboard Entry

From browsing the other posts here, it looks like maybe the image (sorry if not correct term) on the SD card was corrupted. The good news is that we hadn't done anything at all, so nothing has been lost. We are brand new to Raspberry Pi, so any help is most appreciated. If I didn't have anyplace to turn to (this forum), I would proceed with wiping the SD card and trying to reinstall NOOBS on it, but wanted to see if anyone here had any other suggestions before I proceed.

Thanks in advance! We're very excited to enter the world of Raspberry Pi!

I figured out and solved the problem. It appears that the initial installation of the OS failed and then upon reboot it could obviously not boot up. I just had to hold down shift on boot-up and go through the OS installation again, which completed successfully and now we are up and running. Thanks!
