Hick question about power feedback

Tue Dec 17, 2013 9:30 pm

I guys,

I have been lurking around and looking into the above, and just wanted to clarify something I read:

I have a rev 2 board from farnell, only a couple months old. Am I right to assume that if a hub actually feeds 5v back, it's now actually ok on the rev2?

I have 2 powered hubs, 1 at 5v / 1 amp and one at 7.5v / 1 amp.

Will either of these be ok for my rev2 running raspbmc? It looks from what I've read it is ok, just really cautious.

Ta.

Where did you read 7.5V/1A was OK? That is not a USB compatible supply!
You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

It could be depending on the internal hub circuitry, if that is the power supply that came with the hub it "should" be ok. You may want to check voltage at the ports on the hub.

Cheers guys, you've actually answered my question; I'll use the 5v powered hub.

What I did do last night though was to use a power supply (proper pi one) to power up, and then on the powered hub, I took out the 5v and ground wires so the cable can't back feed any power to the pi, but is still feeding the rest of the hubs devices.

you need the ground line.
if you don't want to back power then the only wire you need to cut is the red one i.e. +5V

Cool, thanks! I thought I'd done the right thing.
