I have teh Raspberry Pi up and running and bought a power speaker for it. What must I do to enable the sound to work?

Plug the speaker into the audio output socket.

Turn the speaker power on.

Turn the volume up a little.

depends on what hes trying to run sound from when I connect hdmi to vga converter theres no sound out from audio jack hdmi cuts it of but if his monitor has a headphone socket he maybe able to use that but we need to know what is being used

True, but it's surprising how many people either don't turn the volume up or they've somehow muted the audio and end up scratching their heads.

Default mode sound:

To force sound from audio jack (this is the one you want):

sudo amixer cset numid=3 1

To force sound from HDMI:

sudo amixer cset numid=3 2
