USB Keyboard worked great until..

Fri Dec 13, 2013 8:24 am

I have had the Raspberry Pi for maybe about a week now, so I'm still trying to get used to it and everything set up properly. I have been using a logitech wireless keyboard that was working great until I made a few changes. I was using the Debian Wheezy OS and then I took out the Dlink wireless card that I had been using and decided to give my alfa card a try to see if the drivers would install (which they did.) After that I also wanted to get bluetooth working so I put in the command: sudo apt-get install bluetooth blueman to use with an adapter I have. I also had just hooked up a powered USB 4 port hub as well. But after I did the Bluetooth install it prompted me to reboot so I did that. Now I cannot use my keyboard anymore. I've tried plugging it in all the ports and nothing works. I had to do an improper shutdown at that point. I then booted up Arch to see if maybe my keyboard would work with that OS so i could then narrow the reason for why my keyboard stopped working. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Get a more powerful power supply
Or use a powered USB hub

Sorry I just of mentioned that, I actually do have one hooked up. It's the Rosewill 4 port RHUB-210. I'm using my Galaxy S3 cable to power the device. I'm not sure if that could be the problem, or really how to check

How many amps is the power supply to the hub? Have you tried plugging just the keyboard and nothing else? Did it work in Arch?

On the Hub it's a 5V2A , and no I haven't tried just the usb keyboard. I'll try that now and see if it works. It didn't work with Arch or XBMC

Should I just try to find a better power supply and if that doesn't work then start all over again?

It sounds likely that the problem is the hub is a single TT version. (This causes additional headaches over TT per port hubs)

Does it work OK if you remove the bluetooth dongle? I know bluetooth is a particularly bad type of device that can (depending on which bluetooth dongle you're using) create large numbers of interrupt endpoints which just means we spend large quantities of time trying to talk to it (and we can easily run out of time to access all those within a single USB frame and therefore never poll the keyboard!)

If you're using NOOBS I'd recover the system and try to work out if it's just the bluetooth software that caused the problem or if it's the dongle that causes it

I downloaded the Raspberry Wheezy, I have yet to try the noobs. I really don't even care for the Bluetooth, I just have an extra bluetooth keyboard that I really like. But using the logitech is fine not a big deal either (especially if it gets things working again!) If I keep powering it off just by pulling the power cable without shutting it down how long until that can cause something to go wrong? Right now thats my only option.
