Cannot exit browser

Tue Dec 10, 2013 1:07 pm

Hi,
I got my new toy today, loaded Raspbmc and I went to the browser to see how to set it up as a DLNA client. Anyway now I cannot exit the browser, or, at least, when I do it just restarts. Pulling the plug does not help either.

As a secondary issue I resized the screen (-4%) which works when navigating normally round Raspbmc, but the browser is still too big and I can't even see the File menu (I can access it by mousing off to the left as I know where it should be so I can exit correctly)

TIA,

Nick

I found an answer elsewhere - to pull the SD card and remove lines pointing to the browser from config.txt. It does not sort out the browser size issue, but I am avoiding it for the moment.

Is it just the browser, or is it the Desktop itself?
There is info in the setup guides about overscan/under scan setting.
If you kill the X server & work at the command prompt, you may also see top, bottom, or sides with text missing.
It has been my custom to use Xeyes

I can get the desktop to fit by adjusting Settings > Appearance > Skins > Zoom to -4%, but it does not affect the browser which is so big I cannot see any of the word File in the menu.

I'll try to read up about the overscan settings.

You need to turn off overscan on your tv/monitor different manufacturers call it different things such as just scan, just fit,

I/ve been back in and this time the browser is displayed correctly with the zoom set to -4%. The TV is set to 16:9 and I have not found any overscan options. That's the good bit.

The bad bit is that the browser went into a restart loop again. Although I am new to it, I have a feeling I should be posting the troubleshooting of the restart to this thread at stmlabs.

I do not know anything about Xbmc but I do believe there is a standard for all X applications for declaring their size in pixels in whatever file starts them. It is the --geometry.

For example, I have my lxterminal in Arch started by the following, where first number is width and second is height. you can also specify the distance in pixels from the top left corner, google for more details or read some man pages, I might lead you wrong if I try to explain more right now.

lxterminal 300x200 &

The ampersand lets the startup script exit while the application is still running/starting up.

I hope some of this is applicable in Xbmc, it ought to be since I understand that geometry is the same in all X (but I could be wrong, I just read that in some man page).

If you want Raspbmc it's probably best to dump the Noobs install and do a straight Raspbmc install from here http://www.raspbmc.com/download/ the difference in the NOOBS filesystem is causing issues.

Im reading on here that all that is required is to remove lines re the browser from the Config.txt... But i cant see the Config.txt that ppl describe.

Are you saying that the NOOBs install hides the main? if so how do i get at it. TBH i dont know if i have the time to do a fresh install... a quick easy fix is all im after - SD card into PC edit config - fire up pi .....kop out i know but i will learn the nuts and bolts sometime.

Boot NOOBS while holding the [SHIFT] key.
The NOOBS menu has a config.txt editor.
