Can Pi stream my desktop?

Thu Dec 05, 2013 7:15 pm

Will a raspberry pi work to stream my desktop from a laptop onto my tv screen - basically like a wireless hdmi cable?

I want to hopefully use the pi to help me wirelessly use my tv as a screen or second screen for my laptop - like an alternative to WiDi.

Can this be done?

Thanks

Yes, search for a VNC server for your windows (I assume) laptop.

On the RPi I use vinagre as viewer (but there are others).
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer

Yes I have a windows laptop.

Thanks but looked up VNC stuff and that seems I can just control a raspberry pi from my laptop?

What I want to do is use the pi to wireless display what I am seeing on my laptop screen onto my tv screen, and even better if i can set it up in a dual screen interface.

If you install http://www.realvnc.com/products/open/4.1/winvnc.html you can control your Windows system from any VNC client.

Remmina or vinagre do that job on your Pi.
