Phone used as screen for portable pi

Ok I had this thought to use my android phone phone as a screen for my raspberry pi. I know you can use vnc/ ssh to do this over the internet. Is their a Way of doing it without internet connection through a wire or wifi
I have a raspberry pi model b running rasbian with noobs
I am a bit of a noob and interested in computers so when telling me if it is possible or not can you explain everything clearly

Take a look at setting up the pi as a captive access point. That'll let you do what you want
