I've setup Fedora, but can't login... - Any takers?

Fri May 18, 2012 7:28 pm

Hi
Just got my Raspberry Pi. I've used RasPiWrite to put a copy of Fedora 14 onto the SD card.
I run through the setup process, entering root password, setting user name and user password and saying that I want the default boot to be with the graphical interface.
I then press enter after saying "y" to the graphical interface.
It takes me straight to a terminal/console/command prompt style screen, asking me to login.
I can not login. I enter the correct username and password's I set when I set it up, and can't get in. I just get authentication incorrect.
I then rebooted the device, and it loaded up in the graphical interface.
I click on the user I created, and type in the password. It doesn't log me in, just returns to the login screen.
This is the same when I try the root user. I have gone through the entire install process twice (including re-creating the card) and am 100% sure I'm not getting the credentials wrong.
Has anybody got any ideas? Hopefully there is something obvious I am missing!
Sam

It's this sort of thing that resulted in the image being pulled. One thing to check is if you have a network connection. However mostly we are using the Debian image. Is there a reason for using Fedora?

I'm sort of using Fedora14 because it auto recognises my WiFi dongle. Try USER root and PASSWORD password
On a clear disk one can seek forever

Note that other posts have suggested that the problem is that the keyboard defaults to UK, and, until you get that fixed, your keyboard generates (seemingly) random keystrokes - e.g., a funny L symbol for Shift/3 - and something other than @ for Shift/2. In this other thread, someone had changed their password and then couldn't login, because their password had gotten changed to something "random".

But, as I think about it, the problem with this theory is that, regardless of what random symbols the keys generate, it should still generate those symbols. I.e., you may not know what you changed your PW to, but the system does - and hitting the same sequence of keys as you hit to change it, should, in fact, log you in just fine. But apparently, this isn't what the OP in that other thread experienced. So, I'm a little bewildered by this...
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.

(One of the best lines I've seen on this board lately)

I'm not a total n0b to linux, but it wont let me login as user or as root with either my weak password or the new one in created, what am i missing??

Is does it need to be connected to the internet to boot? I don't have a wifi dongle yet, and can't do ethernet. I suppose I could bridge through my computer.
