Solar powered Raspberry Pi with SODAQ

Sat Nov 09, 2013 12:51 pm

One of the problems we have been facing trying to run the Raspberry Pi on solar power is the relatively high power consumption. On the other hand Arduino type of solutions don't have the processing power of the Raspberry Pi and lack nice features like the Pi Cam.

So what we have made is a hybrid solution that pairs the Pi with the Arduino compatible SODAQ board. In this setup the Raspberry Pi is switched off when it is not needed and woken up by the low power SODAQ board whenever it is required (like at set intervals or on certain events).

Please have a here http://www.sodaq.net/#!sodaqpi/c1ddw demonstrating this setup.
