Can I tie RPi with this remote? Similar to heatermeter

Guys I have a pellet smoker grill that already has a remote. I would like to tie that in with something similar to the heatermeter for RPi. I believe the remote is a RF remote, it does both send and receive since it displays the set temp and actual temp of the grill and meat using two probes, and also allows me to adjust the temperature. I don't have to use the meterheater, but at the end I would like something that would take 5 meat probes and be able to function as a remote so that I can control my grill over wireless or an app on my phone. Be able to log temps and have set points for alarms. If I can incorporate this touchscreen that would be great! Any help would be appreciated.

OK guys I have built my HeaterMeter and love using it! SO my next step is tying the remote in. Just for simplicity I will get another RPI so I do not mess up the one running the HeaterMeter. I attached another picture of the remote. Shows the ribbon cable pin out that comes from the remote board to the LCD. Would I be able to figure out what data is being transmitted by tying into into "DATA" if so how would I go about that? Next question- There are 3 momentary tactile buttons I would like to be able to "press" using the GPIO pins from the RPI-I cannot seem to find a wiring diagram to help me figure out which leg to use. The remote uses 3V, what would I have to use for resistors, transistor etc?
