Absolute Raspberries

Wed Oct 30, 2013 2:39 pm

Hi! My name is Kahla and I am part of Absolute Raspberries, a new company based in Cardiff that teaches kids how to code using the amazing Raspberry Pi! We are only a startup small company and we need friends and feedback. Let us know what you think of our site. http://www.absoluteraspberries.com.

I only joined this forum today, and I am hoping to get really involved on a personal level too. I have become completely obsessed with the Pi over the last few months! (Is there a Raspberry Pi rehab forum?!)

For me, using Raspbian, that site renders as a blank page when viewed with either the Midori or Netsurf browsers that are installed by default.

That sight is very non standard. I looked at the source, and it contains nothing other than references for use by some propriatary engine that I have never even heard of. HTML works for all, I am getting tired of coming acrossed sites that do things so that HTML browsers just show a blank page.

That's wix.com. A free webhosting boosting html5 and "no coding needed".

That site has pretty much nothing in the way of HTML in it's home page apart from that required to pull in a few tons of JavaScript.

So I might expect problems with it on the Pi unless one is using a main stream browser, FireFox/Chrome and then it would be mind numbingly slow.

Looks to me like most of what is on that page could be done in proper HTML5 with CSS3 and a just little bit of JavaScript.

I couldn't agree more. It took about 50 seconds to load the page with Minimal Kiosk Browser (Javascript enabled, otherwise you get a blank page). Larger browsers will even take more time. And it's even rather slow on much faster computers.

Creating a website about the RPi that cannot be used from the RPi itself is not a good idea at all.
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer

Thank you for the feedback guys. It's actually really helpful! For pure ease of access, the initial website is on wix.com because the primary amount of visitors are unlikely to be on a Pi, however eventually as we grow I will probably migrate it over to Wordpress.com. Any reports about the loading speeds etc of Wordpress on a Pi?

We are only a small company (two of us currently!) and we are just trying to make careers out of what we love.
