Error on instalation

Thu Oct 24, 2013 7:09 pm

Hi,

Just tried to install raspbian with noobs(lite version). Installation was successful and rebooted. Initial config screen appeared, I press Finish and Pi reboots.

Then upon loading screen only appears ERROR multiple times. Login is successfull but when Typing startx nothing happens.
What can I do to fix this?

What version of NOOBS?
What make, size, type of SDHC card?
Did you use a built-in or external USB stick-like card reader/writer? (Some built-in ones on older laptops/netbooks are not fully SDHC compatible)
How did you format the SDHC card initially?
I suspect SDHC card formatting problems and suggest re-formatting the card using the SDA's tool (as per the quick start guide) and, perhaps, trying NOOBS 1.3.1 which includes a fix for issues with SanDisk Ultra cards and can be found here: http://downloads.raspberrypi.org/NOOBS/test/ and then report back.

Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

I assume its the latest version because I download it from raspberrypi.org.
SD Card: Transcend SDHC Class6 - 4GB
I used the built in SD card reader on my desktop. Formated with the reccomended tool.

Thanks for the help, gonna try that version. I also bought from amazon an Sandisk 16GB Ultra SD and suspect that link is gonna be usefull later on.

Well, just tried the 1.3.1 installation and didnt worked. Installed, rebooted. Then cant login. Not the same error I had before but still cant go to graphical environment? Any sugestion?
Im thinking this is an SD card problem, so I will probably just wait for my Sandisk card arrive and then try again.

Well it was worth a try. Your symptoms were/are different to the "Sandisk problem" but it's always worth checking with the most up to date version. Could be just an "iffy" SD card but I've had a "further thought" (triggered by your "can't login" comment) is it possible that your Pi's booting into "safe-mode" (http://elinux.org/RPI_safe_mode)? - the main clue is that you get a "#" prompt rather than a "$" prompt. That does not support the graphical environment!

I actually had the "$" symbol in there so thats not the problem.

Glad you've got one OS working at least. I guess just "wait and see" what happens when you try (Raspbian) with another SDHC card.
