Cant Open Graphical Environment

Fri Oct 18, 2013 5:27 pm

Hello everyone,

Got my Pi today and I have spent all day trying to get it work and I cant. Installed NOOBS on my SD card, it installs, reboots.
Then asks me to Login and I type startx and nothing happen.
2nd time trying (reinstalled OS) startx appears to do something but screen remains black.
3rd time trying, wheezy on SD card. Turn Pi on, screen remains black and nothing happens.

What can I do to get this working, its getting really frustrating spending all day and I cant even go to the "desktop" environment.

Thanks.

Are you using HDMI or RCA to connect your display? If HDMI, did you try enabling the setting in the /bin/boot.config for force_hotplug?

Well, did a fresh install of raspbian with NOOBS and I login, type startx, goes to graphical environment and then nothing happens.
Just the mouse and the background, no icons.
Any sugestions?

Is the taskbar there? If so, then all is working.

The help i can provide is very limited as I used Raspbian specifically. I don't know how NOOBS works or what it dose internally.

No taskbar, just background and mouse.
I tried installing the raspbian alone, but nothing happens.

Did you completely white the SD before writing the image to it?

I don't have to type anything to get a GUI, as I selected it for startup in the raspi-config screen (the one with a list of options you can choose your preferences). Once you have done that, you start with the LX screen.

Back to the Pis number one problem that no seems to have mentioned :

The power supply and how much of it is getting to the Pi.
Don't judge Linux by the Pi.......

5v - 2,1AMP power suply.
What I find funny is that everytime I reinstall using the same file I have on my computer it gives a different error.
Now installed, rebooted and after that says authentication failure.

re install from noobs select boot from graphic interface if options is there after its loaded if you get desk top or mouse up you may need to re size the display on one system I installed from noobs I had same issue icons were there but screen size was wrong so I couldn't see them if mouse is visible right click it and an option menu comes up select first run configure and set it up with that should get icons back when booting hold shift to reinstall or change operating system

I dowloaded an image of Raspbian and did the SHA-1 Checksum and they dont match. Can this be the origin of the problem? Only solution is to download again right?

Well, finnaly got it working with the RiscOs with NOOBS. Now, I wanted the Raspbian and Cant get it to work. Can this issue be related to the SD card?
