Ethernet to VGA

Fri Oct 11, 2013 8:42 am

Hey, I was wondering if any one had a clue as to if you could use a ethernet to vga cable to send video to a monitor [that only has vga input]. I won't have access to my pi for a couple of days, so I figured I would ask on here. I attached a picture of the cable. Thanks for your time!

It wont work, the PI has no hardware to generate VGA output, so no simple cable will ever work.
By the way, this probably isn't a "ethernet to VGA cable", no such things exists, at least no such cable exists (if there is a complete computer system in the middle that converts ethernet signals to VGA that's a different thing).
Also this isn't a VGA connector at all, a VGA connector has three rows of pins, a total of 15, this one has nine pins, so its probably just an RS232 cable ending in a specific RJ-45 connector, which is used for other things than ethernet too.

That won't work.
Also recent VGA cables have three pin rows , so this might not be VGA at all.

This cable will also work with some modems as it is a 9-pin female to Ethernet adapter. Also I know that at Maplin they sell 9-pin female to 9-pin male cables(http://www.maplin.co.uk/nikkai-pure-connectivity-serial-null-modem-9-pin-female-to-9-pin-female-3m-97740). ;)

As other have pointed out the cable you have is an de9 to rj45 nullmodem cable.

What you need is an HDMI to VGA converter.
