Hello folks

XBMC tells me it needs 24 bit colour depth – can anyone advise how I set this in Squeeze?

Many thanks

I found a posting by DOM that says:

Code: Select all

fbset -depth 24
should work.

It doesn't work for me though. :-( This could have several causes:

* maybe it doesn't work.
* maybe I need to be running X when I run this.
* maybe I need to be behind the machine (on a console screen) to issue this command. (I'm at home now, not where the 'pi is).

@roger
Where did you get xbmc from?
I think that error comes for misconfiguring the build.
xbmc doesn't use the framebuffer so the error makes no sense.

Hello dom
I got XBMC from debian-multimedia repo, squeeze section. Maybe I should get a more recent version?

did anybody manage to sort this?

I got xbmc from the deb-multimedia packages for debian squeeze as well...

any help is very much appreciated, having it for media is one of the main things I plan to use my Pi for!

Thanks

xbmc for R-Pi is not in debian, so that won't work.

See the threads on OpenELEC and raspbmc for R-Pi specific versions of xbmc.

So using an standard ARM build of xbmc won't work on debian?

I am using debian as an OS, but is seems the media player application of xbmc works better.

Is there any way to install xbmc on debian on the the R-Pi?
