Re: Pi Q : section on website for all of us waiting to get pi

Fri May 11, 2012 10:15 pm

I think a section is needed on the site for those waiting on the R Pi to arrive..

I would imagine that given the stats on actual deliveries vs orders and interest, the number of visitors to the site in posession of a pi is tiny compared to the number in the pi q..

It could show newsupdates on delivery etc, any news about addons for the pi that are being developed, ways to emulate the pi prior to getting one, most interesting things being done with the pi...

Anyone agree?

I do not agree that a special section is needed for people in the queue (at the moment I guess that is most of us), because the sorts of information you mention are already here.

What we need most of all (and it's coming soon) is decent forum software that allows for a more sophisticated search function than what we have here.

The other thing we need is to start extracting all the forum goodness into the Wiki, because once questions are asked and answers established, they will be easier to find than wading through pages and pages of forum threads.

I suppose it would be easier to leave things as they are with the relevant information buried in far flung corners of the forum/wiki, but I still think for those who are less experienced with computers it would be more useful and helpful to gather all that information together in one place that is readily and clearly linked from the main page of the site.

The forum netiquette suggests we keep our comments suitable for a young audience (PG PG 13 etc) and the R Pi has obvious educational appeal. As such it is to be expected many of the site visitors will be very young and very inexperienced. For that audience I think having the information in one place where it is very easily and quickly found would be more appealing.

The forum and wiki would still be there for more advanced users.
