webcam on rpi

hi everyone can anyone suggest a webcam software for the raspberry pi that can record videos and any commands i need to do to set it up thanks

i have had a look on google through most search terms and mostly nothing hence why i asked here

Well fair enough then. Can you provide more detail saying what you did find, what you tried, why it didn't work, why it wasn't suitable, etc. etc.
The more info you provide, the better answers we can provide

but i got the same problem as him and then the same problem after his had been fixed so i wasn't sure what to do after that and that was the only result i found so then i posted this the webcam is Creative Labs CT6840 USB Video Blaster WebCam im not sure whether its 1,2 or 3

Oh, so you do already have a specific webcam, and aren't just asking about webcams in general? That's helpful to know

Again, you need to provide much more accurate input if you want help. What exact commands did you try typing? What error messages did you get? As I often say, I'm afraid we're not mind readers

If you're only interested in recording video, you'll probably get much better results (and much more help) if you use the official RaspiCam http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/3890

USB webcams are quite variable, so what works for one model may not work for a different model. And on the RaspberryPi they tend to be quite slow.

yeah the main reason im using this webcam is out of necessity i just found it and to be honest i can't afford a cam board at all and would rather try to get this working

I use "motion" software on mine. Works great. Tend to be resource hog, though, so you may not be able to multi-task with it. I have yet to try Camera Module. Lack of proper case, and an already functioning webcam puts it into low priority.

Depends whether the time spent trying to get a USB webcam working is worth less than the money it'd cost to just buy a camera board...

Camera module $40. Cheap USB camera $10. No contest. Besides, mine works just fine.

Bet it doesn't record 1080p video at 30fps though
