SoS. My RPi would not boot.

Wed Aug 28, 2013 5:20 am

I bought a RPi Type-B with 512 MB RAM from RS Components, along with the pre-installed NOOBS on a 8GB SD Card. After connecting and powering up I get the menu of NOOBS wherein I am asked to choose the OS I wish to install. I choose Raspbian and It gives me a message "Image successfully Installed". However On trying to Boot It never gets to the command prompt and keeps on displaying "INIT: cannot execute "/sbin/getty". Somebody please HELP.

sounds like a damaged install.
could be a faulty written NOOBS, or a problem occurred while writing the raspbian image, possibly power related?

I suggest simply trying again, make sure your power supply is up to the task.

P.s. I have never heard about this particular error, so it seems a quite random occurrence.

If exactly the same thing happens again, almost certainly the NOOBS image is damaged.
If another strange error occurs it points to your power supply, or perhaps the card itself is broken.
Make sure the card is seated properly in the card holder, and the contacts are clean .

It seems that the Raspbian image is damaged. because I tried Pidora and RISC OS through NOOBS and both worked flawlessly. So can anyone advice how to repair the Raspbian image on NOOBS.

Why not just redownload NOOBs?

Return to “Beginners”
