RaspBMC Hangs on Boot

Thu Aug 15, 2013 4:08 pm

Hello: I installed RaspBMC and after updating, the install stopped with the following message:
Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown - block (179,2).
I get the same message when I try to boot.
I am using the 512 MB board with 8 GB SD card.
Any help would be appreciated.

It's really easy to corrupt the FS on SDCards with the raspberrypi.
make sure you have enough power (5v 1W).
make sure your card is good by verifying your image wrote properly with md5/sha.
if it fails 3 (copy+boot) times try the full img or a different OS http://elinux.org/RPi_XBMC

Check out the Raspbmc forums here http://forum.stmlabs.com/index.php There was a problem with cmdline.txt getting corrupted, simple fix.
