7"inch Slick e-Reader Screen...

Wed Aug 14, 2013 9:43 pm

So I have a 7"inch LCD that I removed from an e-Reader. I have pictures and can upload a diagram of the flat cable pin-out if it will help. I'm trying to figure out where to start (and if it's even possible to use it).

Any help or info would be great, this is going to be my first "solo" (present company excluded) Raspberry Pi project and I'm pretty excited!

Thanks Everyone,
Bryce

UPDATE...

Sat Aug 17, 2013 3:26 pm

I've been working to get a datasheet from the manufacturer for this product.

Part# HLY070ML206-18A

I have to admit it's amazingly difficult to count and trace the connector pins on one of these flat cables. Anyway here is a scan of the connector:

If this LCD cannot be attached to the DSI port anyone one who can tell me so would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,
I think you'll find your answer if you search this site......

Fiddling with DSI will get you nowhere (no docs , needs secret
GPU code). And i guess the GPIO has not enough bandwith.
For smaller displays the FBTFT project of forum member notro
might be interesting.

I found this looking for what seems to be the same part pulled from one of those insignia digital picture frames.

Even if the DSI wasn't a closed-off interface only accessible by the GPU, it still wouldn't work with this screen without some kind of serial-interface -> parallel-interface adaptor chip.

As mentioned you will need an interface of some sort to convert to something the RPi can use.
Here is an example. Notice that the interface board is bigger than the RPi itself.

The board also has to supply the High Voltage needed for the backlight.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

OffTopic: A resolution of 800x480, and they're advertising it as "1080P"?! That's a bit cheeky
