Detecting Gertboard

I have my Gertboard doing several things, and I have a program that starts at boot that does things on my Gertboard. However, if the Gertboard is not connected, I don't want the programs to run. What would be the simplest way to detect if there is a Gertboard connected?

I am afraid there is not a standard answer.
The reason is that it depends on the straps made what is connected where.
The extreme example is if no connections are made: in that case there is no way to detect the Gertboard.

Only if you have some connection(s) which are always present can you start thinking about detection.
