Downgrade from Model B to A ?

Sun Aug 11, 2013 6:28 pm

I have my photo-frame fully working on a Model B in 'stand -alone mode' i.e no network, no KB:, nothing connected to the Pi but HDMI display & power (the images being shown on the photo-frame HDMI display are stored in a folder on the 4Gb SDHC card)

To save some money for a new project, I decided to buy a Model A and 'swap out' the Model B (to free it up tor the next project)

When I do so & power-on, the model A doesn't even turn on the display (not a flicker) = before I waste any time 'debugging this (a real pain with no Ethernet on the 'A' and a blank display) does anyone know if this is SUPPOSED to work ????

You may have an old firmware on the SD card which doesn't support the memory on the Model A. Use sudo rpi-update to update everything on the SD card and try again.

YES !!!

I had to do a bit of (sudo app-get upgrade) and (sudo apt-get install rpi-update) before I could (sudo rpi-update) without an 'unexpected redirect', BUT once the rpi-update completed OK I could switch the SDHC from the Model B to the A and it booted and ran the photoframe perfectly !!

Many thanks, Steve

Cool. Sounds like your SD card had quite old versions of 'stuff' on it.
