PLEASE HELP... need longer Pi Camera cable

Sun Aug 04, 2013 7:59 pm

Hello... I have recently received my R-Pi and a camera module. I have also added an RTC module as well as a small stepper motor controller. My goal is to build a small, battery operated, self contained, time-lapse motion-control camera unit.

Unfortunately the cable that ships with the camera module is far too short to facilitate experimentation without getting in your own way.

I REALLY need to know where I can get an R-Pi camera cable that is anywhere between 1.5 to 2 feet (46cm to 61cm) in length. And I would prefer it to be a US distributor as I don't want to wait for the long delivery time and extra shipping costs of buying from a distributor outside of the US.

Can anyone please offer any knowledge you may have as to where I can get a cable with these specs? I have looked extensively on eBay and Google but haven't had much luck in finding a distributor other than bulk wholesalers... and I only need a couple of these cables... not thousands of them.

Thank you for any help you can give.

This cable is only a couple of inches longer than the supplied cable, but you might try to contact the seller and see what they can do:

Here is one from China. It's about 15" and advertised as a RPi extender cable. However the photo shows a type A cable and I think the cable should be type D. The 1st listing above shows the difference:

Note that these type cables are primarily used internally inside keyboards, monitors, laptop, tablet, phones etc. Typically they would not need to be very long, so I would expect that you would have a difficult time finding anything as long as you are wanting.

Maybe there are small cable converter adapter boards that you could get to convert to another type of cable and then back? I don't know if there is something off the shelf?

Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

A whole thread in the camera boards own section, should give you something to go on.
