Re: OS updating

Hi everyone.

I set up the Debian OS on a SD card the other day.  No sooner had I done it then the Debian OS had an update.

So, just wondering, do I have to reformat the SD card and start again, or can I just put the new image 'over the top' of the existing one, and therefore not have to re-size partitions etc.

Not a big deal at the minute I know, but when my Pi arrives and I have stuff saved on the SD card it would be a pain backing stuff up all the time because I have format to install the latest OS release.  (Not that I don't back up, but you know what I mean).

Cheers

There have been a few threads on this topic already (q.v.).

The short summary is: For the time being anyway, yes, you do have to start over from scratch each time.
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.
