Analog I/O

Many microcontrolers and some ARM chips offer on-chip analog to digital and
less commonly digital to analog. This is usually an alternative to GPIO selected per-pin. Does the chip selected offer this on the pins available via the GPIO connector, or will we need to use external I2C or SPI converters to get analog I/O. (A PIC or AVR may be the cheapest way to do that.)

I normally use MCP3008 & MCP3208 ten and twelve bit (respectively) eight channel ADC's
