Re: RAID & also Updating SD Images.

Sat Apr 21, 2012 1:31 pm

I"m brand new to this so please be gentle.

1.

On Raspberry Pi with a big enough SD Card, would it be:

A) Possible & preferable

B) Possible but unnecessary

C) Something else

to attempt to create partitions on the SDcard for a RAID array?

2.

After the initial install, will I be able to update the SDCard image straight from the PI, if for instance I want to change from Debian to Fedora or Arch?

This is purely for information, the answers will not dissuade me from purchasing a PI, but I may keep it for myself and give my Aeons old PC to the kid.

Thanks.

I don't see the point in creating a RAID array on the same SD card? Although I could see the point of of RAID 1 across two cards using a USB Hub, Debian does support software RAID and I can see plenty of examples via Google to guide you.

Not sure how quick it would be though – does the Rpi support USB 3?

as to your second question, the Rpi will load whatever it finds on the SD card, so you could build up a collection of Linux distros (plus other OS).
