Hi Liz and Everyone,

Thanks for the update that is really great news to hear that serious volume manufacturing has started. (It looks like I just might get my Pi by the 14th May, the date I was given by Farnell)

However I was just wondering if you have any _definite_ information as to what has happened to the remaining 8,000 that was manufactured by the foundation?

Are they:
1) Still in Japan?
2) In the UK?
3) Delivered to customers?

My _guess_ from the number of Pi out in the wild that they have already been delivered to customers. However I would be most grateful if you could contact RS and Farnell and let us all know the latest news about on these boards.

However I am generally not too bothered about this given that at least 100,000 more Pi are now being manufactured by just one supplier.

Thanks

I'm a little surprised that Farnell only have 100,000 orders.

If we assume that RS are similarly placed, that suggests less than 250k orders (globally) for the Pi. Given the media hype and general anticipation surrounding the project, I would have thought this figure would have been much higher - in the millions.

We might assume this is due to enthusiastic early adopters (always the minority) who want to snag a Pi for its own sake. Still seems a very low number to me, and if you look on eBay you can see that at least some of these people are selling them. In other words, they at least are not enthusiasts.

Perhaps order volumes will ramp up as we find innovative uses for the Pi that end users can reproduce.

1) They are being manufactured in China.

2) The 8k are being reworked and sent directly to the distribution centres. Without the customer is based in the UK they won't need to be in the UK

3) As and when they have been fitted with the correct network jack and pasted QA.

The information posted in "the forums and other places" is quite old now and we have not had a recent update on the 8K progress. I would have thought they would have all their jacks replaced by now.

I was just just politly asking for a fresh news on these 8k. But I am more pleased about the volume manufacture.

Does anyone know whether Farnell's "export" site is included in all of this?  During the rush of the launch (1am my time) there was remarkably little information for how to order these things, and the only way I could get my (USA based) order in was at Farnell Export.  I haven't heard anything from them since about two days after launch, when they told me it should ship on April 16th (which didn't happen).

Export's "order history" doesn't seem to have the same level of detail as other people have found with the other Farnell sites.  It doesn't currently show when the order should ship.  It only shows status=backordered.

Thanks!

I am finding this a little funny . First I get an end of April date, then after a few weeks an end of May date, now they announce that that it will be definitely by the end of June .

*thows a tempertantrum* mommy I want it now. I want to play with it now .

P.S. When I get one I hope that I do not  kill it with static electricity, because whenever I have my hand near something metal I am shocked by static.
