It would help tremendously if you told us what distribution you are using.

http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads - but if you are using debian then try Googling 'debian sudo'

Pretty much the equivalent of those jerks who say "RTFM" to everything.

Not jerks, just people who could be bothered to RTFM, or to use Google. Which, sadly, many people can't be bothered to do nowadays, and who expect information to be handed to them on a plate by people who did bother.

No point having an absolute beginner forum if you expect people who post in it not be be complete beginners.

Actually, it's common forum etiquette across the net that even newbs to a forum put forth the effort to research a little before they open a new topic.

That said, I'm not a fan of the "Let me google that for you" when it's done in seriousness, but that's just my personal take.  Sometimes you have tried to find something, but just couldn't.  In those cases, I'm all for pointing the OP to a specific thread or webpage for assistance rather than going into a huge discussion on something that has already been covered, but let's do give a little benefit of the doubt here and work with the basic assumption that a google attempt was made, but the person just didn't know the right phrase to search for / the right page to open.
Dear forum: Play nice ;-)

I"m seriously disappointed now.

The OP asks for something he obvoiusly put thought into :
1) a specific repo for an up-to-date VLC for RPi
2) " aMSN "

He cannot know if we have better info than him - especially when he is new and all important threads go OT (from answering the OP) after 5 posts.

@HeathHayle

The answer is easy : They do not exist currently , those apps have to be build from source (note that VLC will be bogus without accelerarion) - my advice to you is to wait till X , XMBC , mplayer and the last coffepot have made to work with RPi GPU features.

This IS a ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS forum .
