Raspberry Moblie Scanner

Tue Jun 25, 2013 2:59 pm

Hello Pi Community,

I've recently obtained a Pi (what an awesome little machine) and
need your help/guidance on an idea I have please.

The Idea:
Have a raspberry mobile scanner with 3g, to email the scan to where ever.
I got the idea from the following website:
http://eduardoluis.com/raspberry-pi-and ... k-scanner/

The Scanner:
I've obtained the following mobile scanner
1. Epson Workforce DS-30 (Very nice little scanner)
Which does have Linux drivers on the Epson website.

Raspberry Pi:
1. I have a Pi model b rev 2
2. Installed with wheezy - 2013-05-25
3. 8gb SD card
4. 5v 1amp power supply

Work Done:
1. I got it scanning on my 64bit Ubuntu 13.04 VM machine using the iscan drivers with sane
2. Installed sane on the raspberry and manually edited the epson.conf/epowka.conf file with the usb vendro id and product id
3. sane-find-scanner sees the device but that is all nothing further (On the pi)
4. Installed iscan drivers on the pi by forcing the architecture, didn't work well, too many dependencies missing

Questions:
1. How do I get the iscan drivers onto arm architecture?
2. Is this the best way to achieve my idea? or would I need to look at something else?

Any help/ideas/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers :)

I today had a conversation with someone who was already doing this.
He was using one of these;

Hi guys,

I'm trying to create the same "device", using Brother DS-620 scanner.
So far I had success only with setting up cheap 3g-modem and umtskeeper for nice and self-restoring connection.

With scanner, I faced the following issue:
Brother DS-620 (which is perfect hardware for our goal - being usb-powered, with 0.5a power required only, automatically fed with paper - you just need to carry the sheet you'd like to scan to scanner and it does the rest without even pressing any buttons) is supplied with linux drivers, but they are ONLY for i386 and x64 platforms. To work with Raspberry Pi, this scanner need drivers for armhf architechture (the same package as "libsane-dsseries", but compiled for armhf).
My requests to Brother's customer support service had no luck. They refused to give armhf driver, any time frame estimations when it's possibly will be created, and even sources of libsane-dsseries package (with it I could try to recompile drivers for Raspberry Pi platform by myself).

I assume that there is compatible and nice scanner for this purpose, just wanted to ask did anyone have found it yet?
Maybe Epson Workforce DS-30? Does it have any drivers for armhf-based linux? Any other suppliers, maybe Mustek?

Would be great if someone had answer :)
