Scanner permission issue

Wed Jun 19, 2013 5:37 pm

I'm trying to setup my pi as a home server and got samba and printing working perfectly fine. Today I was working on the scanner and am running into a bit of an issue I can't seem to find a solution for. Whenever I try to use the scanner for either xsane or command line I get this message
"Failed to open device 'pixma:04A91723': Access to resource has been denied."

The scanner works fine though if I run xsane as root, so there is obviously some permissions issue going on but I'm not sure where I would go to actually edit that.

It's a Pixma470.

Anyone have any ideas or past experience?

Maybe add user pi to group scanner?

I actually ended up getting it working a little bit before you posted. I was reinstalling it and thats when I noticed it adding sane and scanner. Got the little thing working perfectly as a file/print/scan server.

Thank you for responding though.
