Problem strange connection problem from Windows 7 desktop

Fri Jun 07, 2013 1:37 am

I've got my raspberry pi almost ready to implement my internet controlled garage door opener but I have a problem. I can't putty or ping my pi hardwired to my desktop through my router. The strange thing is from my laptop using both Ubuntu and Windows 7 I can access it just fine. I can ping my desktop from my laptop no problem. Currently I'm using putty to get to the laptop then ssh to my raspberry pi. Is there anything on the pi that would cause me not to be able to reach the pi. I also can't ping the desktop from the raspberry pi. What ever is causing my problem is causing me to have problems reaching the pi from the internet. Anyone got any suggestions. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Am I interpreting the above correctly to mean that the Pi is (physically) connected to your desktop via (one of) its ethernet port(s)? If so I suspect the issue is with the network settings/O.S. etc. on your desktop (not the Pi). Our household has a mixture of wired and WiFi connections to the main router (and then to the internet via cable modem), most of the wired network also using a number of ethernet switches. With that topology I'm able to ping, PuTTY, ftp etc. between any of the computers largely regardless of O.S. ('though I haven't done much w.r.t. Windows 7 on the daughters' laptops). IIRC there is another thread here w.r.t. direct Pi connection to Window's boxes and associated ICS issues - it would be useful for those that know more about that to give more info. about the desktop box.
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm
