Now I have CUPS installed. What next ?

Under Ubuntu 12.04 LTS I just plugged in my USB printer Canon MP270 PIXMA
and this shows up with CUPS and maybe also the gutenprint package and works OK.

I plug the same printer into my Pis USB ( powered hub ) and nothing happens
( same after a reboot ) and if I print a leafpad text file it only offers
print to file.

Is there something to run to check on my printer setup ?

Also how do I get the gutenprint driver package for CUPS ?
