Upgrading OS

Fri May 24, 2013 4:31 pm

I am currently running Debian and wish to upgrade to Raspian. I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade via my Pi or if I need to use the original method- using an SD reader? Forgive me if this question seems stupid but I am fairly new with this device and wish to learn more. Thank You.

I am almost certain that to get from Debian to Raspian you will want to start from scratch with an new Raspian image on your SD.
Just backup any files you have created on your Pi and go for it.

Re-flashing your memory card with Raspbian would be quicker and hassle free than trying to change the OS from one distro to another (which I very much doubt is possible).

Once you have installed Raspbian make sure you:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
the image on the Raspberry Pi forum is still quite old and many important bug fixes have been issued since then.
