Small screens

Mon May 20, 2013 2:11 pm

I'm not sure if I'm just missing something completely obvious but the Pi Store seems to be nearly impossible to use with small screens like my 4.3" one which just seems rather odd seeing as small car screens seem to be quite popular with the Raspberry Pi

Hi there!

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble running the Pi Store on a small screen.

Just to make sure that I'm understanding the issue correctly, is it that the window is too big to fit on the screen or that it does fit on the screen, but everything's too small to interact with?

Would you mind telling me the resolution of your screen and which visual output you're using to connect to it, please?

Thanks very much,

Actually, I can see that you've previously referred to a 4.3" screen in other posts which runs at 320*240 resolution. Assuming that this is the screen you're asking about in this topic, I can confirm that the Pi Store wasn't designed for screens of this size.

I'm afraid that as that is an extremely small screen, it would require a substantial amount of work to make the GUI suitable at that resolution. I don't believe we have any plans for that currently, but as always, if any other users are interested in this, let us know. :)

This depends on the quality of the display. To increase what is seen on the screen, you could try running X11 on a lower dpi -

Code: Select all

startx -- -dpi 60
...but if the quality of the screen is too poor, you may not be able to see much ;)

I use the composite video (PAL) at its default resolution and I can hardly use Pi Store due to that only a small part of the program is visible.

Maybe this could help you:
