Newbie Question: Changing keyboard to UK

Wed May 15, 2013 9:47 pm

Hi.
I've just got my Pi, but I cannot change the keyboard to UK... Even thought the config.txt reads GB.
I've reboot the Pi, but I still can't put in @ or #
If I try and type @, I get " instead.

Please can someone tell me what I need to so to get my keyboard to work (it's a RT-MWK01)

Thanks

If it is the same as this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ee4oA4HoM00
Then it is a US-style keyboard, not a UK-style keyboard, no matter where you bought it.

UK has double quotes over the 2, £ over the 3, hash/tilde next to Return, @ next to it over the single quote, and an extra key between Z and Shift with \ and |.
US has @ over the 2, # over the 3, \ ands | next to 1, and double quote over the single quote.

Looking at my keyboard at work can see that now... D'oh.
Sorry, should have seen that myself. Just to damn excited about tinkering with my Pi :D
So the way to get the keyboard "working" is to set the keyboard to US?.... Or put the correct symbol sticky labels over the offending keys.

Set it to US. Otherwise you will find you can't type \ and |, and both are important to Linux.

The key between Shift and Z is the difference between 101 and 102-key keyboards. US keyboards don't have it.
