Monitor Connectivity Problem

Fri May 03, 2013 10:40 pm

Hello,

I have an LG Monitor 22EN33S-B.
I have the Raspberry Pi.
I have a HDMI to VGA converter going from the Pi, to a VGA cable, into the back of my monitor.
Ive edited my config.txt file to accomodate the conversion.

When i uncomment hdmi_safe=1, the monitor picks up a VGA signal, but doesnt actually show any Pi information. Just a black screen. When I edit anything else and try it, nothing.

Can anybody help with this?

Best regards

Its just a very simple 20cm converter. Converter box at one end of the cable with a VGA port. Other end of the cable is a hdmi plug. No power source (which im guessing is the problem, but not sure). Thanks for the speedy reply.

That is likely the problem. *Some* of that type of HDMI-to-VGA converters are powered off the HDMI connection and *some* of those will work *some* of the time with a Pi.

For reliable conversion, get a converter that has it's own power supply. Be warned, they tend to cost more than a Pi does.

The alternative is to get a monitor that will take DVI-D input. They can be had for less than $20 (sometimes *way* less, or even free) if you hunt around and are willing to be a little patient.
